Passat CC

Optional Park Assist

The Passat CC can practically park itself, cleverly steering into position. But all you do is control the pedals!

Overview

We developed a unique parallel parking, steering assistant called Park Assist, enabling automatic parking at the touch of a button. The optional Park Assist system works by using sensors mounted in the front bumpers together with parking sensors front and rear. To parallel park the driver needs to press the park assist button and use the appropriate indicator before the car passes the parking space. Sensors in the front bumper then scan the size of the parking space as the car is driven slowly past it. A central control unit then tells the driver if the space is big enough. If there is sufficient space, the driver halts the car, selects reverse gear and lets go of the steering wheel. Park Assist will alert the driver to the intended reverse path in the multifunctional display, within the drivers field of vision. Park Assist then actively supports the driver by taking over the steering control and parks the vehicle in the available space using the ideal course. The driver continues to brake, accelerate and apply the clutch. Park Assist will instantly deactivate if the speed is too high or if the driver takes over the steering.
